Your New Denture Needs to the Maintained

Posted .

Our dentist, Dr. Ryan D. Sparks has years of experience providing people with partial or complete dentures. These special removable dental appliances are designed to replicate teeth lost to gum disease, tooth decay, or a severe dental trauma.

The base of the denture is designed to closely match your existing gum structure. Still, you might like to apply a small amount of denture adhesive when you put it in each morning to hold it in place and help prevent food particles from working their way between your dentures and gums. If you do end up having a problem with food particles, you should remove your denture and rinse it to remove the food debris and denture adhesive. After drying your dentures, you can apply a fresh bead of denture adhesive.

You will also need to clean it each night. You should gently scrub your dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush or a denture brush, and dish or hand soap. Or you can use a toothpaste formulated for dentures. If you are taking your dentures out for the evening, place them in a soaking solution. This will help to keep them clean and moist, so they don’t lose their shape.
