Holiday Treats for Those With Braces

Posted .

Sometimes, you just need something sweet. Unfortunately, nuts, candy canes, and caramel seem to permeate the dessert and candy scene, and you can’t eat any of those if you have braces. But there are still lots of delicious foods you can eat–especially if you make your own simple treats! Here are some yummy and easy options for your holiday season.

Fudge: Fudge is a quintessential treat for the holiday season, and easy to make, even if you’ve never cooked before. Plain chocolate fudge is delicious and simple. To make peppermint fudge you can eat with braces on, use peppermint extract instead of candy canes. For a tasty nutty treat, try making a smooth peanut butter fudge. Or, use almond extract in a white or dark chocolate fudge. This gives you a delicious nut flavor without real nut pieces getting stuck in your braces and injuring your teeth, gums, or braces hardware.

Soft cookies: Unfortunately, tough or even very crisp cookies aren’t an option for you this year. But soft cookies are still available to your sweet tooth! Remember– avoid nut pieces and candy cane pieces, as well as sticky caramel. Try soft gingerbread, brownies, blondies, or soft sugar cookies.

Pie: Pie is generally a great option for teeth! Other than pecan and caramel apple, of course. Cream, fruit, custard, and meringue pies are all good ideas for a braces-friendly dessert that everyone will love. Try a lemon meringue pie, or go for classic pumpkin.
